About the Dances
I do encourage you simply to come along and dance with me, as it's tricky trying to describe what the Dances are about. From my point of view, I find them a joyous way to meditate, pray and meet with others, and a nourishing reminder of our interconnectedness with each other and all that is.In practical terms, the Dances involve singing or chanting a sacred phrase while dancing with simple movements in a circle. Some Dances involve meeting others through gentle eye contact or a heart-to-heart embrace. The words, tunes and movements are always carefully taught, and all aspects are optional or can be adapted if you feel they will cause you discomfort. Part of a Dance may be danced in silence, remembering the phrase internally, "on the breath".
There is of course a lot of information on the Web about the Dances. You could start by looking at a description of them on the website of the International DUP Network. There is also a video Invitation to the Dance which gives a particular perspective - although I am a little squeamish about films depicting spiritual practice.
